| Early detection and intervention clinic by a team of
doctors and therapists for infants and toddlers below 3 years of age is
a speciality of this centre. It is a well known fact that 80% of the brain
growth is completed by 3 years of age. Early detection of disability and
stimulation programs including therapy and play using stimulatory toys and
materials can drastically reduce the degree of disability. Dr.Premila the
founder and Director of Shilpa society has completed a postgraduate course
on early intervention from National Insitute of the Mentally Handicapped
in Secunderabad.Remarkable improvement is being seen in children attending
this programme. |

| The society plans to focus
more on Early intervention and research and is planning a series of early
detection camps .The first one was held in Kumbalanghi island of Cochin
,where developmentally delayed children were assessed.Seminars for professionals
working in this area are being held regularly. |
